Denman Residential Designer Day                                                                                                                                                                                         On a bright and sunny Sunday morning in June 20 members set off by coach to Denman. Most of us went on our own, not knowing anybody but quickly made friends. On arrival to a welcome cup of tea and cake we  explored the beautiful house and grounds. We sat by the lake or in the herb garden in glorious sunshine admiring the rare trees including a Tulip tree just coming into bloom. An interesting talk on antiques was arranged for the evening. Next morning we began our courses, patchwork bags, painting on silk,or silver bead jewellery. After lunch followed a cookery demonstration with samples. As we had some free time after this ten of us decided to visit Oxford. All to soon we were journeying home having had a lovely enjoyable time. It was my first visit to Denman after 40 years a WI member - why did I wait so long? Thanks  go to Jane Pearce for her excellent organisation. I would recommend a Denman visit to anyone, new friends, lovely surroundings and interesting courses. What an experience Denman is!! It’s a must to do for everyone and it was far more enjoyable than I anticipated. Denman is such a lovely place, the staff were so friendly and the food is to die for. I went on a flower arranging course thanks to my WI bursary North Duffield. Gill Cressey, Angela Gereghty (South Yorkshire Fed) and myself had a ball from beginning to end. There were 70 other members all on different courses and from different parts of the country.I have to say everyone was such a pleasure to talk to,and we all swapped ideas of what each others WI’s were planning. I am looking forward to booking another course.   Chris Kirby North Duffield WI Denman Room New Craft Items The whalebone arch was sent in by Mrs Margaret Pettit of Wykeham & Hutton Buscel WI and the heather photo  features the Fat Betty or White Cross which stands on Danby High Moor was taken by Val Burdiss of Hutton Bonville WI.
